It is engineered for extreme working conditions where high cutting power, continuous operation, and maximum durability are required. Compared with standard chainsaw chains, the .404 harvester chain delivers significantly higher cutting efficiency and strength for large-diameter timber processing.

This chain is widely used in forestry harvesting, logging operations, sawmills, and industrial wood processing applications.

KMC is one of the few manufacturers that can manufacture high quality .404".080" harvester chains.

Points to note when using a saw chain:
1. Wear personal protective equipment to prevent the saw chain from rebounding during use.
2. When cutting, stand on one side of the saw and hold the saw with both hands.
3. When the saw is running, do not run around with the saw
4. Keep the saw properly maintained.
5. When replacing a new chain or using it in a cold area, it is recommended to run at low speed for two minutes so that the chain can be pumped with moderate lubricating oil.
6. Try to avoid collision with rocks, stones, concrete or hardened metal.

Points to note when maintaining  a saw chain:
1. When maintaining and replacing the chain, make sure that the chain saw is not running and wear professional gloves.
2. To properly lubricate the chain, use only high-quality lubricants.
3. After the new chain has been cut several times, it should be checked again, and the tension should be readjusted after cooling if necessary.
4. Please wear gloves to adjust the chain tension to avoid injury.
5. Always file in the direction of the indicator line on the top plate.

Saw Chain Identification Diagram

SAW CHAIN IDENTIFICATION

Pitch, gauge, and drive link count are the key dimensions for matching a saw chain to a chainsaw bar and sprocket.

Pitch is the average distance between two rivets. Common saw chain pitches include 1/4", .325", 3/8", and .404".

Gauge is the thickness of the drive link that fits into the guide bar groove. Common gauges include .043", .050", .058", and .063".

Length is normally identified by the number of drive links, so counting the old chain is the most reliable way to confirm replacement length.

Semi-Chisel Cutter Diagram

Semi-Chisel Cutter

Semi-chisel cutters use a rounded working corner for smoother cutting and better tolerance in dirty or dusty wood.

This cutter profile is easier to maintain, more forgiving with filing angle, and suitable for homeowners, farms, orchards, and general-purpose cutting.

Full Chisel Cutter Diagram

Full Chisel Cutter

Full chisel cutters have a sharp square-corner profile designed for fast, efficient cutting in clean softwood.

This style provides quick and precise cuts, making it a strong choice for users who need higher cutting speed and can maintain the chain regularly.

What is a .404" Pitch .080 Gauge Harvester Chain?

The .404 harvester chain is defined by two key specifications:

  • .404" Pitch – Large pitch designed for high-power cutting systems and industrial machines

  • .080" Gauge (2.0mm) – Thick drive link structure designed for maximum strength and durability

This combination makes the chain suitable for high-load mechanical cutting environments, especially where continuous cutting of hard and large-diameter wood is required.

Technical Specifications

  • Pitch: .404"

  • Gauge: .080" (2.0mm)

  • Chain Type: Harvester Chain / Mechanical Logging Chain

  • Cutter Type: Semi-chisel / Micro chisel optional

  • Application: Feller bunchers, harvesters, industrial logging machines

  • Structure: Reinforced drive link and heavy-duty rivet system

  • Operation: Continuous high-load cutting

What Makes .404 Harvester Chain Different?

The .404 pitch harvester chain is significantly larger and stronger than standard chains such as .325 or 3/8 chains. It is designed for:

  • High-powered hydraulic cutting heads

  • Continuous forest harvesting operations

  • Large diameter hardwood cutting

  • Industrial-level productivity demands

Because of its size and cutting power, it requires high torque professional harvesting equipment.

Key Features of KMC .404" .080 Harvester Chain

Applications

The .404" .080 harvester chain is widely used in:

  • Mechanical logging operations

  • Forestry harvesting machines

  • Feller bunchers

  • Industrial timber cutting systems

  • Wood processing mills

  • Large-scale forestry contractors

Why .404 Harvester Chain is Used in Industrial Logging

In professional forestry operations, efficiency and durability are critical. The .404 chain system is preferred because:

  • It handles high torque cutting heads

  • It performs well under continuous heavy load

  • It reduces downtime in harvesting operations

  • It increases overall wood cutting productivity

This makes it the standard chain type for modern mechanized logging systems.

Cutter Types Available

We offer different cutter configurations depending on application:

  • Semi-chisel cutter – better durability and dirt resistance

  • Full chisel cutter – faster cutting performance in clean wood

  • Harvester-specific industrial cutter designs

Drive Link and Chain Configuration

Different harvester machines require different chain lengths. We supply:

  • Standard harvester chain loops

  • Semi-skip and skip configurations

  • Custom drive link counts for machine compatibility

.404" .080 Harvester Chain

What is a .404 harvester chain used for?

It is used for industrial logging machines such as harvesters and feller bunchers for cutting large trees.

Is .404 chain bigger than 3/8 chain?

Yes. .404 chain is larger, stronger, and designed for higher power machines.

What is .080 gauge in harvester chain?

.080 gauge refers to the thickness of the drive link, designed for heavy-duty industrial cutting strength.
