What is Chain Pitch?
Chain pitch is one of the most important specifications of a chainsaw chain. It refers to the distance between three consecutive rivets divided by two.
In simple terms, pitch determines how large or small the chain’s teeth are and how they match the sprocket.
If the pitch is wrong, the chain will NOT fit the chainsaw.
Common Chain Pitch Types
| Chain Pitch | characteristic | Industrial Logging |
| 1/4 Pitch | Small and lightweight | Pruning Saw/Mini Electric Chainsaw |
| Low Profile 3/8 | Low kickback, high safety | Household / Domestic/Garden / Gardening |
| Standard 3/8 Pitch | Regular professional chain | Forestry & Logging |
| .325 Pitch | Moderate cutting performance | Semi-professional application |
| .404 Pitch | Heavy-duty large saw chain | Industrial Logging |
Quick Pitch Size Comparison
| Sawchain Pitch | Cutting ability | Safety performance | Recommend users |
| 1/4" | Low | High | Home users |
| 3/8 LP | Medium | Very High | Beginner |
| 3/8" | High | Medium | fessional user |
| .325" | High | Medium | Semi-professional |
| .404" | Very High | Low | Industrial users |
Chain Size Example
| Size Example | Recommend users | |
| 3/8" .050 62DL | Pitch + Gauge + DL | Home users |
| .325" .058 72DL | Mid-size chain | Beginner |
| 1/4" .043 56DL | Small chain | pruning chain |
Chain pitch determines the size and compatibility of a chainsaw chain. It must match the sprocket and work together with gauge and drive links to ensure safe and efficient cutting performance.
